Columbia Ski Club newsletter                november 2008

This month’s meeting is a return by popular demand to the wonderful Summit Hill Winery on the hill in Southern Holt’s Summit just off hiway 54!  Start with a social hour at 6 o’clock and then onto the overflow/private room for a dinner and short meeting.

Payments on the two trips currently scheduled are being accepted and encouraged.

“Thanks” go out to Matt Kirby ofCooper’s Oak Winery, the Higbee winery, for his gracious donation to the wine tasting last month at Copper Kettle.  We had two tee shirt give-aways and a bottle of the new release, which Charlie Enochs won in a drawing.  If you’re in Columbia and want to pick up some of that product, it’s available at Patricia’s IGA on I-70 Drive SE.

Paul Lowry ofLowlander Outdoor Adventures was scheduled to be at the club meeting in October and instead will be on hand this month to give a quick presentation on ski tunes and a sundry of other interests.  Just bring your skis and snowboards along to the meeting for him to collect and take care of any needed tune-ups.  Any questions for him can be taken care of by calling 573-823-1080.

I’ve been to the FSA Fall Meeting in K.C. a week ago and have some items to report on, one of which is some particulars on the Summer 2009 trip to Mexico’s Playa del Carmen.

And I might add right here that the Aspen trip could use another lady to complete the rooming setups!

“THE POWER OF FOUR”

ASPEN-SNOWMASS-HIGHLANDS-BUTTERMILK

December 7-12, 2008

Wow, look at this!  Your clueless editor has been clued in -by who else, but his wife, -that a .jpg can actually be inserted into a .doc! (--seems that would be incompatible!)

Halfway up Aspen Mountain on Silver Queen Gondola, December 2007.  The Silver Queen is across the street from our condos – how cool is that?

Ok, so 21 or 22 is now the number of skiers and boarders going for the four day/ five night trip to Aspen / Snowmass in December.  Aspen Square Condominiums is our destination in the heart of downtown Aspen.  It’s time to get current with payment and about half of us are already there.  I’ve got 4 or 5 studios and 4 two-br condos set-up so far with room for more (especially studios).  I’ll have a tentative rooming list at the Monday meeting, and probably do the rearranging then, based on if and who else signs on.  Cost is $575 and to be paid up by this coming meeting.  It’s a drive-out trip and arrangements are being made for teaming up in the car pools, probably over some wine on Monday.

NOTE:  IF you are going and planning on that 4th day lift ticket, getting me the extra $48 in advance will get you a 4 day ticket (instead of the 3-day one that’s included in the cost).  The 4th day extension is available at the window at the same rate as on the ticket, but we’ll get a bit of a discount with advance orders.  Last year, about 7 of us took advantage of the advance purchase.

Four mountains and four days,,,,,hmmmmmmm,,,, coincidental???.  This year, we’ll have only one non-skier going on the trip.  There’s some hot-tubbing, a bit of wine tasting to be done each of the evenings while out there, and a November pre-trip party to plan yet.

Plan on going to ski and board at the Power Of Four Mountains and bring your final trip bucks to the meeting on Monday.  It’s a ‘get-yourself-out-there’ trip, so after some wine, the driving arrangements could get interesting…..

Flatlands Ski Association  2009

COPPER MOUNTAIN

January 27 to February 1

Our second club trip returns to Copper Mountain from Jan. 27 to Feb. 1 2009.  Once again, there will be NASTAR amateur racing for all experience levels and ages plus FSA parties and banquet.  Flatlands is always a good time with nearly continuous activities to keep everyone busy.

Five nights lodging, a club dinner at the mountain and a pre-trip party are also included with this trip at a cost of just $498.

Note:  Ongoing payments are due in November!  See your flyer schedule.

Just below Sunshine Peak (10,384’) during FSA Steamboat Springs 2008.  Near record snows of “champagne powder”!

Playa del Carmen, MEXICO 2009

This coming summer, Flatlands Ski Association has made reservations for 16 to Mexico at Playa del Carmen, just south of Cancun on the Yucatan.  Right now, that’s not the total limit, but rather a tentative arrangement.  It’s priced with or with/out a direct flight from KC (MCI) to Cancun.  The captain of this affair is Kip Tevis of Kansas City & FSA President 913-631-7553 hm.  This trip will be limited, and the cost is currently $1529 with airfare, so if you have any interest at all, get your $100 deposit in with FSA, or as always, get in touch w/ Captain Ron.  A revised flyer is forthcoming with the pricing.
